Western Fashion: Post World War II

Fashion after the the second world war reemerged after the hard times during the war. The concrete look and short skirts during the war soon changed to become a more soft and femine look. Post war fashion was all bout round shoulders, long flowy skirts, and fitted waists. The time after World War II is considered the return of high fashion. The war was over and there was more time to relax and participate in fashion. After the war, there was economic expansion, which called for synthetic fibers, nylon, acrylic, spandex, and basically fabrics that were easier to care for. The fashion industry also started to target teen consumers since they became wage earners before the war. The iconic "New Look" by Christian Dior was very popular in the late 40's to early 50's. The new look was very feminie with a pointed bust, and mid calf skirts.
Since the United States emerged as one of the most powerful countries after the war, it created an econmy boost, which highered consumerism. Americans started wearing more lavish and expressive looks, since they had to hold off so much during the war.
