The Rise of Fashion Designers

Fashion design started in the ninteenth century. There is mass manufacture design and haure couture desing. While mass manufacturing is produced for many people to buy, haute couture is made for a specific person making it one of a kind. Certain designer names started to become more coveted and sough out for than others. Four of the most succesful designers are Coco Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Gianni Versace, and Yves St Laurent.
Coco Chanel:
Unless you live under a rock, you can recongnize the interlocked double C as a Chanel Design. Chanel specialized in making classic pieces, and is known for its "Classic Chanel Suit". Chanel is known as the twentieth's century most famous and influential houses of couture( Arnold, 8). Chanel also reminded the world that "simplicity doesn't mean poverty" and that women should dress plainly. Coco Chanel embodied femininity and contemporary fashion.
Giorgio Armani:
One of the most succescul designers to come out of Italy. Armani specializes in clean cut menswear, with tailored lines. The Armani Exchanged was created for the American mass market as basic men and womens clothing. Armani suits represent the apperance of men. Extemely sharp and luxurious, Armani suits are always the most worn on red carpets.
Yves St Laurent:
Yves St Laurent started of working for Christian Dior, and after Dior's death was named House of Dior. He also becaome the first living designer to be honored by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1983. Yves St. Laurents accomplishments in teh fashion world are highly admired, and always set as goals for many designers.
