fash·ion
[fash-uhn]
–noun
1. a prevailing custom or style of dress, ]
etiquette, socializing,
etc.: the latest fashion in dresses.
When I think of fashion, I think of haute couture, runways, Yves St Laurent, Chanel, Christian Dior, confidence, boldness, trends, and styles. All these things are from recent history. Fashion started way before and designers and runways. Since people developed self awarness, they started to feel like it is important the way you dress. All the ancient worlds (Greece, Rome, China, Egypt, Persia) had fashion trends of their own.
Fashion has always been around. People had always had the desire of looking sharp and dressing in fine materials. "We must destroy here and now the widely held prejudice that fashion is not only concerned with the outer cover of man in dress, jewellery, and ornaments. Since it is a general social institution it affects and shapes man as whole"(Konig, 40). Many people feel that fashion is for the shallow and cocky, but your own style tells a lot about who you are. People judge each other on what they wear, so it is important for people to dress decently to make good impressions. Fashion started because people wanted to feel good about themselves when going about the world.
